They use most forums of modern communications such as satellite up-links, webcams, internet blogging, and press releases during any of their campaigns. Exaggeration and lying plays a big part in this. Paul Watson (The Sea Shepherd Society founder) advises readers to "make up facts and figures when they need" to, and to "deliver them to reporters confidently". He also states that the "truth is irrelevant" due the nature of mass media.

                                                            Lush Cosmetics Company

While Paul Watson is still striving to find his ethical bottom, he got together with Lush Cosmetics in 2009. To launch the soap and awareness campaign with the Sea Shepherd Society, Lush Cosmetics employee suspended herself, using hooks in her flesh, in a Lush shop front window in London, England. Really weird stuff here even for animal rights. Link is below.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/5724486/Graphic-pictures-Woman-hangs-herself-on-fish-hooks-in-Paris-shark-protest.html

Paul Watson has claimed several times that the Harp seal of eastern Canada was going extinct. However, according to fisheries Canada, the Harp seal population is increasing each and every year. The latest Harp seal count was in 2007 and put the Harp seal numbers at 5.6 million off the east Coast of Canada with approximately 2 million more found else where in the world.
http://www.fishaq.gov.nl.ca/sealing/sustain.html

Japan has a annual whale hunt which they hunt approximately 500 Minke whales each year. According to Watson, the Minke whale is another species that is going extinct. The International Whaling Commission puts their numbers in excess of 1.1 million. The Minke whale happens to be the most numerous whale in the world. The 500 or 600 that the Japanese harvest each year has no effect on the overall numbers of the Minke whale.

http://www.iwcoffice.org/conservation/estimate.htm

Paul Watson knows full well that neither the Harp seal or the Minke whale are in any real trouble. These blatant lies are only stated in the hopes of soliciting donations. If he told the world the truth, few would ever donate money. The Sea Shepherd Society doesn't fit the profile of a group concerned with animal extinctions. What they are concerned with is the use of propaganda, misinformation and outright lies as tools to entice the uninformed out of their hard earned paychecks.

There were two marine mammal species that did go extinct in the last 3 years. Watson and his Sea Shepherd Society were, of course, nowhere to be found.

1) On December 13, 2006, the Yangtze River Dolphin, or Baiji, was declared "functionally extinct", after a 45-day search by leading experts in the field failed to find a single specimen.

2) After five years of futile efforts to find or confirm sightings of any Caribbean monk seals — even just one — the U.S. government on Friday announced that the species is officially extinct and the only seal to vanish due to human causes.
.

The Quackery Called Animal Rights

Whenever I need a topic to write about, I simply troll the animal rights groups till I find something really stupid they are saying. With the vast amount of verbal diarrhea coming out of their mouths, it didn't take long today to find something today.

Animal rights ( AR) groups fighting against the Canadian seal hunt have even proposed to have Newfoundland separate from the rest of Canada. Now silly-assed statements like that are really going to go over well in Canada This was a suggest made by our very own Canadian raised AR nut-job Michael McDade. He should be so proud.

Canada is one of the best nations to live in the world today. A high standard of living, good health care and education, and plenty of opportunities. It has an excellent environment for living, fresh air, beautiful scenery and wildlife. In Canada, people with different backgrounds live together peacefully without any discrimination.

Animal rights has been protesting the Canadian seal hunt for close to 40 years. In the late 60's, a man by the name of Brian Davies discovered that people were willing to donate money to stop the Canadian seal hunt. Hundred's of millions of dollars have been donated to hundreds of different animal rights groups worldwide. Salaries paid to the top animal rights employees reach into 6 figures. Protesting for animal rights today is a business and a big one at that. The money is big and the retirement benefits are to die for. Brian Davis pulled a 300,000 dollar a year salary and eventual 2.5 million dollar pension out of seal protests.

Canada is not going to separate over our seal hunt. That is pure AR nonsense. During the so called Great Canadian Seal Protest of 2009, less then one thousand people joined in out of a country of 32 million people. Canada is simply not a strong supporter of animal rights.
.

How to Kill a Seal Pup

Seals are powerful, wild animals and are to be treated with respect. Many of the animal rights groups in the world are seen photographed with the white harp seal pups. What the animal rights people don't know is that they are giving the seal pup it's death sentence.

In a crowded seal rookery, a mother seal knows that she has found the right pup by its smell. Researchers believe that seals have an amazing sense of smell on land which allows them to detect predators. When a person picks up a seal pup just to get a photograph, the mother seal will not be able to smell her pup and will abandoned it. The seal pup is now left to starve to death. Whenever you see a person holding or petting a seal pup, that seal pup is now dead.

Human handling of seal pups has caused many seals to be orphaned according to Dr. Bruce Mate, professor, Oregon State University Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. http://seagrant.oregonstate.edu/sgpubs/onlinepubs/g03013.html

"The Marine Mammal Center warns everyone not to touch a seal pup as this may cause the mother to reject the pup. Anyone attempting to handle, disturb, harass or touch seal pups, could be fined under the Marine Mammal Protection Act which prohibits interference with seal pups and any other marine mammals. The Marine Mammal Center is reminding peopleto give seal pups a chance at life by not picking them up or disturbing them. We admitted more than 100 seals last year for a variety of reasons, including those that were separated from their mothers as a result of humans picking them up.” A seal pup depends on the rich milk that its mother provides for survival. If people are too close, the mother may avoid returning to it. Members of the public should be aware that it is illegal and punishable by law to pick up, handle or disturb a seal pup under the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972."

Seal experts agree: "While seal pups are a joy to look at, do so from a distance of no less than 50 yards and they must not ever be touched. If molested or handled in any way by humans the mothers will abandon the pup. If the pup is handled by a human (or even a dog) trace of their scent are left on the seal pup."

By touching a seal pup you are often inflicting the harm you were seeking to undo! While before the mother may not have abandoned her pup, after it has been touched by a human she almost certainly will! Irish Seal Sanctuary-Marine Wildlife Rehabilitation http://www.irishsealsanctuary.ie/iss_via/vets/Seals/seals.html

Some animal rights groups such as the Sea Shepherd Society have this crazy notion of spray painting these white seal pups. The Humane Society of Canada is an animal rights lobby group. They do not operate any kind of animal shelter or pet adoption facility anywhere in the country. They raise millions of dollars each and every year by pretending to help our pets and animals and it's all a scam. The Humane society of Canada is a “humane society” in name only.

What the Humane Society of Canada does do however is to try and restrict our use of animals. They don't want to see animals in circuses, rodeos, medical research, dog shows, hunting and fishing. They go so far as wanting to ban the use of seeing eye dogs.

Like all this is not bad enough, now Humane Society of Canada is going so far as trying to restrict what we watch on T.V. They filed a complaint with Canada’s broadcasting regulator over the airing of the Calgary Stampede.

When is it all going to end??

.

Humane Society of United States kicked out of Louisiana

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, HSUS did their duty by holding press releases and soliciting donations. (as they always do) Efforts to actually do anything for the animals however, fell a little short. Estimates put the money raised during this period at 34.6 million dollars. I copied below from a website.

"So far, The HSUS has helped to rescue more than 300 animals in Louisiana and Mississippi, including dogs, cats, ferrets, and a seal."

"CBS News reports that the Houston SPCA has rescued nearly 1,000 animals and sent them to a temporary shelter near the Astrodome. The Houston Chronicle reports that the Louisiana SPCA is handling an additional 700. And the Petfinder service notes that the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in Baton Rouge is sheltering another 600 animals."

The State of Louisiana was so unhappy with HSUS that they got kicked out of the state, thus cutting short the extended fundraising stay?

"Attorney General Charles C. Foti, Jr., announced today that his office has opened an inquiry into allegations involving funds raised for pet /owner reunions by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). The Attorney General’s Office is asking the HSUS for an accounting of all funds HSUS raised for the purpose of pet rescue and reunion with pet owners in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita."

Public disclosures of the disposition of the $34 million in Katrina-related donations add up to less than $7 million. So HSUS made 34 million and spent 7 million helping the animals. No wonder the State of Louisiana was so pissed at them.

But wait...this gets even better. The real animal rights groups that were there helping out are also furious. They did all the work and HSUS got all the money. The real animal rights groups saved 1000's of animals more then HSUS did for almost no money at all. Read the blog below from volunteers at Hattiesburg, Mississippi Katrina rescue site. It should give you a good idea of what HSUS is all about.

http://rantand.blogspot.com/2006/03/hsus-katrina-relief-effort-under.html
.

PETA Suing Animal Rights Group

PETA in it's never ending quest for money, power and media attention is now suing another animal rights group. PETA is suing the Friends of Animals animal advocacy organization's primate sanctuary. Friends of Animals (FOA) is a non-profit, international animal advocacy organization in New York. FOA runs a primate sanctuary located state of Texas.

PETA’s latest attempt at shutting FOA down (there were four other attempts) alleges that they are in violation of the “dangerous wild animals” statute. The suit asks the Court to force PPI to get rid of all of its “dangerous wild animals,” including its chimpanzees, African lion, and baboons.

It sounds to me that Friends of Animals must have crapped in PETA's cornflakes at some point.

After some searching I found this...

"The reason PETA is suing FOA (Friends of Animals) is very simple, and it's not about the primates. FOA is the only animal rights group that has publicly denounced PETA's hypocritical and--in some cases--criminal practice of rounding up and killing adoptable cats and dogs and then lying to the public about it. Even with its $30,000,000 budget, PETA can't manage to find homes for more than a handful of animals a year.

PETA does not need to operate a shelter for the animals it takes in because it kills almost all of them. No overhead there! All it needs is enough money to keep plenty of Fatal Plus on hand."

Cumulative cost of PETA-funded lawsuits against Primarily Primates may reach $1 million

SAN ANTONIO--Judge Solomon Casseb III of the 288th Judicial District Court of Bexar County, Texas, on March 11, 2009 rejected Primarily Primates' motion for a summary judgement dismissing the latest round of four years of PETA-funded litigation against the sanctuary.

From Friends of Animals , April 2009:

"Feral told ANIMAL PEOPLE that Primarily Primates and Friends of Animals spent more than $50,000 defending against the initial PETA-backed case; spent more than $240,000 to regain control of Primarily Primates after it was placed in receivership; and have already spent more than $80,000 defending against the Hensley case. PETA and the plaintiffs aligned with PETA have not disclosed their legal expenses, but the American Justice Partnership Foundation estimates that plaintiffs on average incur about 60% of the cost of pressing a lawsuit, while defendants incur about 40%. This ratio would suggest that total cost of cases involving Primarily Primates since 2006 now exceeds $925,000--more than the total income of the sanctuary in all but two years before FoA annexed it."

The lawsuit between PETA and Friends of Animals, over a four year period, has cost close to one million bucks. All that money from both sides is from donations. If the people only knew how much of their donated money gets wasted on crap like this rather then spending the million bucks helping out the animals. Which is what they claim to be doing and they are supposed to be doing.

PETA lawsuit against Friend of Animals is about alleged financial mismanagement. PETA is claiming that the Friends of Animals group is not handling their money properly.

Well now, that is interesting...it's the preverbal pot calling the kettle black here.
.

Feed The Hungry-Not Animal Rights

The animal rights movement has often been compared to the Nazi's of Germany during the second world war for several reasons. The Nazi's would round up and put into power, people who lacked all empathy for their fellow human beings. This was how some of the Nazi's could inflect such cruelty towards their fellow human beings and not give it a second thought. These Nazi's could not relate to human suffering. They could not put themselves in others shoes.

Animal rights is not much different. Many of them also cannot relate to human suffering. Children all over the world are going hungry and animal rights doesn't give it even the smallest amount of attention. Animal rights movement cannot relate to human beings going hungry or at least they appear not to. With the vast resources of wealth and manpower that animal rights movement has available, nothing is done for the children. Instead, they squander their resources trying to convince children not to drink milk or use wool for keeping warm.

Animal rights could really use a large does of empathy for people and especially children. Estimates put the amount of money donated to animal rights groups world wide at nearly 300 million dollars last year. Was even 10 cents put towards feeding the worlds hungry. Millions were spent by PETA last year trying to get schools in the United States not to give their children milk. Now does any of this make sense? PETA's lack of empathy towards children is quite evident. Their goal here is not to help feed children but the exact opposite. PETA wants to deny children milk. And for that effort, PETA made 30 million dollars in donations last year. Why is anyone giving PETA a single cent?
.

A Question To Animal rights

It's official: Caribbean monk seal is now extinct
Only seal species to vanish due to human impacts; two other species at risk.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25007277/

In Finland, the Saimaa ringed seal (Pusa hispida saimensis), one of the world's few freshwater seals, is likely to become extinct in a few years, according to the Finnish natural resources agency, Metsähallitus. Its population has dropped to just 260 due to "warmer winters, drowning of seals caught in fishnets and traps, and the dispersed nature of the seals themselves," The Helsingin Sanomat newspaper reports.

Another freshwater seal, Canada's Lac des loups marins harbour seals (Phoca vitulina mellonae), could soon become listed as an endangered species in Canada, according to a report in The Nunatsiaq News. There are just 100 to 600 of these rare seals left (although most scientists believe the number is closer to the lower end of that range), and according to documents at the government's "Species At Risk Public Registry" website.

One seal species that doesn't rely upon ice is the Hawaiian monk seal (Monachus schauinslandi). But that doesn't mean it is less endangered. Research by Jennifer Schultz, a doctoral candidate at the Department of Zoology and Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology at University of Hawaii, Kaneohe, shows that Hawaiian monk seals face a genetic bottleneck, with the lowest genetic diversity of any mammal species ever studied. As of 2007, they estimate only 150 of the extremely endangered vaquita (Phocoena sinus) remain in the world.

I have a few questions to the Animal Rights people-

With so many marine mammals on the brink of extinction in the world but especially the United States, why is it I never heard a word about any of this from the Animal Rights movement. They protest that fact that I eat chicken, put honey in my tea, wear wool socks and keep a pet goldfish, but nothing on wildlife species going extinct!! Why are animal species at risk of so little importance to Animal Rights?? With the vast resources of manpower and money that animal rights have at their disposal, should they not, more then anyone else, raise the alarm? Is there some reason that all of us are expected to keep this quiet??

What is Animal Rights getting in return for keeping silent??

Why are Animal Rights so afraid of the Americans??
.

The Canadian Seal Protest Business

The total number of known threatened species in the world today (2009) stands at 16,938, of the 44,838 species assessed using the IUCN Red list criteria. Threatened species are those listed as Critically Endangered, Endangered or Vulnerable.
http://www.endangeredspeciesinternational.org/overview2.html

With so many species of animals threatened today, why are the animal rights protest groups screaming about Canada's seal hunt? The Canadian harp seal is one of the most abundant animals on the planet . According to the department of Fisheries and Oceans, Canada, the Canadian harp seal is listed as "least concerned". The harp seal population is healthy and abundant. The Northwest Atlantic harp seal population is currently estimated at 5.6 million animals, nearly triple what it was in the 1970s, and has been at that level for the past ten years.
http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/seal-phoque/myth-eng.htm

What animal right protest groups have learned is that through cleverly worded propaganda messages, they can get the public to go running for their checkbooks. The animal rights groups use the seal hunt as an annual fundraising event and their attacks fill up their coffers by using emotional pitches and half-truths. The fact is that these groups are actually making more money from the annual Atlantic seal hunt than the sealers themselves earn. Take for example the $77.5 million U.S. the International Fund For Animal Welfare raised last year and it's easy to see the benefits seal hunting actually bring to protest groups. Greenpeace pulls in 35 million dollars a year. PETA makes close to 30 million. HSUS earns a hefty 100 million a year. Fund raising, not protection of species, is often their prime objective.

Animal rights groups were very quick to see the economical gold mine in "Saving Canadian Seals". In 2007, it is estimated that animal rights groups earned nearly 300 million dollars worldwide protesting the seal hunt in one year. How much money have the animal rights groups made since they started protesting the seal hunt. The figures must be staggering.
Solely for the purpose of fundraising, animal rights protest groups argue against the Canadian seal hunt, one of the most numerous animals on the planet. All the while, 16,938 species of animals that are in trouble seem to be ignored.

Go figure...
.

It's official: Caribbean monk seal is extinct

Congratulation to all the Animal Rights people out there who have sacrificed their time and energy to try and help the seal populations of the world. Could not some of this money be directed into helping to save animals right in their own back yard??
